This program seeks to pattern human development with varied and appropriate media resources that many Ugandans have no access to.
FOCUS
2003 -2004
Between 2003 – 2004 A.A.I media programs met the needs of the community around Jinja. The ministry provided A Christian resource center meeting the educational needs and developing a culture of reading among Ugandans.
ACHIEVEMENTS
During the year: Over 3,000 School Children, Pastors, and the General Public benefited from our Public Christian Library on Wilson Avenue plot 23. Thousands of Ugandans from all walks of life turned up as we visited the communities of Jinja, Budondo, Buwenda, Wakitaka and Buyengo with Films shows on community development, health care and other Christian topics.
We were able to minister in 12 schools where over 500 Children gave their lives to Christ. The Children’s Program “Big A” club (from the scripture in Mt. 22:37- "… Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”) gathered the Children from Wilson road and Kiira road every Saturday for Bible study, games and other Christian related activities.
Fifteen youth meet bi-weekly during school holidays for Bible studies, games, and other educational activities.
In efforts to eradicate illiteracy in communities, two Pastors and one Arise Africa staff member were trained as literacy tutors to train others and awarded proliteracy certificates.
2004 -2005
During this time media expanded its programs into the districts of Kaliro, Mukono and Mayuge working in partnership with the church and public schools.
Our main emphasis was to develop the culture of reading and to eradicate illiteracy.
Developing the culture of reading Arise Africa Christian Library continued its operations on Wilson Avenue with 50 new members joining the Library. From the Christian Library and donations from friends 3,000 books were added to begin a mobile Library to schools that had no access to a library. This program benefited over 5,000 school children in Mutai Primary School, Luwerere Primary school. Mayuge secondary school, Naminya Primary school, St, John High school and Buwenda Primary School.
In the same year we introduced a reading class in the Big A Club for the children to have a chance to read a story as others listened, and then discuss the vocabularies.
The youths were given an opportunity to use the Library freely. From the Library proceeds we were able to award the best users of the Library.
ERADICATING ILLITERACY
The people that were trained in 2003 trained 65 tutors and commissioned them to begin literacy classes in their communities based in the Churches in Kaliro and Mukono Districts and around the shores of Lake Victoria. The trained people began classes with 245 registered students as Arise Africa empowered them to sustain the classes through technical advice, providing supplies such as teaching aids and actual monitoring to the classes. Arise Africa developed a teaching manual that’s easy to understand and translated it to Luganda. These have been very helpful for the tutors to refer to in times of emergencies.
SHARING THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST
With the visiting teams, Mission Link International, Rick Via Ministries, and Heart and Hands teams, we were able to minister to 56 schools in Jinja, Iganga, Bugiri, Mayuge, Busia, Buyengo and Kamuli reaching over 4,000 students. Hundreds gave their Lives to Christ.
We empowered the scripture Union to disciple the new converts by donating Christian Literature, Bibles, footballs and candy to all Children.
The Big A Club continued with its weekly activities on Wilson Road with twenty new children registering. We continued with the Film ministry to the Rural Communities in Partnership with Life Ministry Uganda.
Our Youth Program activities expanded as we began correspondence with the youth during school through mails.
2005 -2006
During this period the Media programs experienced drastic changes in an effort to continue to achieve their objectives as well as reach a wider circumference.
LITERACY PROGRAM
We continued to monitor and empower the classes began in Kaliro and Mukono Districts. Giving supplies and technical support as the ministry could afford. We moved into Buyengo Zone and trained 12 tutors who began classes in 5 Churches. Just as in Kaliro and Mukono we continued to offer technical support, and supplies. We extended the mobile Library into new communities and the tutors and students had an opportunity to read books on various topics.
We had six students give their lives to Christ.
PUBLIC / MOBILE LIBRARY
To accommodate growth at Wilson Avenue we moved the Public Library to Waibale road Jinja; hoping to reach more people. We had an opportunity to reach 134 new members from all walks of life. The Mobile library continued with its services and gave services to Buwenda Christian School.
SHARING THE GOSPEL
BIG A CLUB
The Big A Club continued in their weekly activities with 12 new members and five graduates to the youth program.Older children were trained to lead the young ones during the program sessions. The Children were taught how to share with others, especially the needy, and we hosted a Christmas party at Jinja secondary school hall where children were invited from other Churches including the street children.
YOUTH PROGRAM
The youth group grew in many ways as they continued with their weekly programs during holidays and was ministered to through correspondence during school days.
The youth were taught how to witness, and they moved to Jinja Children’s Hospital to witness and shared gifts with the sick.
The youth with a burden for the needy visited Welcome Home Children’s Home and helped in cleaning up and baby sitting.
The youths performed in different Churches in Jinja with songs and skits focusing on Christian character and abstinence.
SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Together with the visiting teams we were able to visit 48 schools this year.
PUPPET PROGRAM
Mission Link International introduced puppet programs to 21 Sunday school teachers from 18 districts of Uganda. These were commissioned to return to their communities and incorporate puppets into their Sunday school classes. Among those trained were Arise Africa staff who have incorporated puppets into the Big A Club with very fruitful results.
2006 -2007
Our emphasis is to see to it that our objectives in media are being met.
We have invested over four million shillings in the purchase of a Dell Projector, Amplifier, and Yamaha Key Board to help us achieve our objectives.
